It seems soft, yet it is glass. This signature VENINI optical illusion is called Balloton: a unique process that recreates a quilted effect in glass. The “balloton” forming process is one of the most fascinating in the art of Murano glass making. In the most important phase of the process, the master glass maker has to blow the hot glass inside a special, thick metal mould before it solidifies. The mould creates the rhomboid shapes on the outer surface.
